Broken Homes Article

Broken homes ‘damage brains of infant children’ - Article response

The main point argued in this article is the fact that children whom are brought up in broken, dysfunctional families, mentally develop at a slower rate, ending up with a disadvantage among all the other children, when they reach the school age of 4.
I strongly agree with this argument. This is because I believe it is solely up to the parent for the development of their child, from the ages of 0-3. A child of such a young age will be in the company of their parents, every minute of every day. As a result, they will learn and develop by watching and communicating with their parents – greatly learning from minor things like bed time stories, for example. Therefore, in a ‘broken’ home, it is likely that the parent will not have the time or simply the care to do this, so the child is unable to develop as quickly as a child whom is receiving a lot more attention.
